St. Thomas Bhavan (Provincial House)

Considering the growth and the development of the congregation and taking into account of the increase in the number of members and ashrams and the wide expansion of the area of our apostolic activities, the General Synaxis of 1988 of our Congregation had made a detailed study of the possibility of having Provinces/Vice Provinces/Regions in our Little Flower Congregation. The reorganization of our Congregation in two Provinces came into effect on March 19, 1994. The purpose of this new arrangement is to intensify our religious life, to render our activities more effective and to decentralize the general administration. 

Geographically St. Thomas Province consists of North Kerala including the dioceses of Thrissur, Thalassery, Thamarassery, Mananthavady, Palghat and Belthangady. The majority of the tribals in Kerala are settled in the area of St. Thomas Province and the settlers from the south and central Kerala are an outstanding category of the population of this area. A sizable percentage of the Muslim population in Kerala is situated in this Province. In comparison with the south and the central Kerala, the people of our Province are economically backward and the facilities for the decent living are very meagre.

In the light of various needs and problems of the people, our gospel values are the values of truth, justice and love that would help us to bring about the Kingdom of God among the people with whom we live . For that we are trying to open our inner eyes to see the pressing needs of our people . It demands us to make new experiments to fulfill these needs in a more effective manner. In this mission we are trying to hold on the power of Jesus, moved by the promptings of the Spirit and also being  in profound communion with the Father. This power should enable us to fulfill our prophetic role as religious in the contemporary world. Therefore the basic thrust of St. Thomas Province of the Little Flower Congregation is the following.

1. To have a spirituality of integral vision
2. Solidarity -founded on respect and love
3. People oriented life and activities

Our Target Groups

1. The rural youth
2. The dispossessed and dehumanized tribals and dalits
3. The unorganized small farmers and agricultural workers
4. The victims and the followers of communialism.

Our Priorities

1. Priority of Values: Personal communion with God, simplicity, hard work, justice and peace, sense of responsibility and self-sacrifice, sense of belongingness.

2. Priority of Activities: Struggle for social justice, promotion of universal brotherhood, care for the environmental order, youth apostolate, activities for rural uplift.

The new St. Thomas provincial house was blessed and inaugurated on October 24, 1996. At present St.Thomas province have 14 houses,53 priests, 42 major seminarians. 12 Novices and 46 Minor seminarians.

1. CHELAVOOR:  ST.THOMAS BHAVAN
St. Thomas Bhavan was blessed and inaugurated on July 3, 1993 by Very Rev. Fr. John Olickal CST, the then Superior General. The new house was blessed on 24th October 1996 by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy, Bishop of Thamarassery and Mar Dominic Kokkatt, Bishop of Gorakhpur. This is the Provincial House of St.Thomas Province.

2.  CHATHAMUNDA:  LITTLE FLOWER NOVITIATE HOUSE
The first batch of the Novitiate was started here on 30th May 1980. This house was blessed and officially inaugurated by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy the then bishop of Mananthavady on 27th February 1982.

3. CHULLIKKARA LEBISONE ASHRAM

4. GURUVANIKARA PUSHPA NIKATHANA 

This Ashram was blessed and inaugurated by Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop of Belthangady on September 5, 2002. It envisages a Home for the orphans and poor children. 

5.  IRIKKUR: LITTLE FLOWER MINOR SEMINARY

The Minor Seminary was inaugurated by Very. Rev. Fr.  John Olickal, the then Superior General on June 16, 1981. The seminary was blessed by Mar Sebastian Valloppilly, the first Bishop of Thalassery on February 18, 1982.

6.  IRITTY: PUSHPARAM CENTRE

Pushparam Centre was started in 1992 and the Ashram was blessed by Rev. Fr. Joseph Chathanatt, the then Provincial Superior, on January 20, 1995. The purpose of the Ashram is to impart vocational training for the youth and youth apostolate. The Pushparam I.T.C was blessed on 17th August 1998 by His Grace Mar George Valiyamattam, Archbishop of Thalassery and was inaugurated on the same day.

7. JELLIPPARA LITTLE FLOWER BOYS HOME

Permission to open a Boys Home at Jellippara was given by Mar Jacob Manathodath, Bishop of Palakkad on January 16, 2001. The Little Flower Boys Home was inaugurated on July 29, 2002 by Fr. Paul Mundumoozhikara, the then Provincial Superior.

8. KANNIKALAM:  NAVAJYOTHI ASHRAM

Navajyothi Ashram was started on May 19, 1994. This Ashram envisions a centre for pastoral and spiritual ministry and social apostolate of St. Thomas province. A home for the mentally retarded and physically handicapped children also is in the original dream. This ashram was blessed by Mar George Valiyamattom, Archbishop of Thalassery on August 29,1996.

9.  KAITHAPOIL: SANJO BHAVAN

Sanjo Bhavan was blessed by Mar Paul Chittilappally, Bishop of Thamarassery on 1st October 1999.This Ashram envisions a resource centre for charism development and also to promote socio-pastoral and educational activities for the integral development of the people, especially of North Kerala.

  Health dialogue Kozhikode is an organization working for the promotion of total health in its physical, social, mental, spiritual and environmental dimensions. 10. KALPETTA:  TABORE

Tabore is the 1st year Minor Seminary of the St. Thomas Province. Mar Emmanuel Pothanamuzhy, Bishop of Mananthavady granted us the permission to start this house at Kalpetta. The foundation stone of this seminary was laid by Fr. Paul Mundumoozhikara, the then Provincial Superior on October 1, 2002. Fr. Joseph Pulinthanam, the Provincial on June 14, 2003, inaugurated the Seminary.

11. KARIMANI:  CHRISTU NIKETAN

Christu Niketan was started as a Social Centre in 1984 to uplift the poor villagers, to organize the farmers and to encourage scientific cultivation in the area. And it was raised to an Ashram on 3rd April 1989. The Ashram parish was inaugurated by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy , Bishop of Mananthavady on February 19, 1990. Little Flower Minor Seminary (I year orientation course) was shifted from Little Flower Minor Seminary, Iirikkur to Christuniketan, Karimani on 14th June 1999.

12. KARLSKRON:  LITTLE FLOWER KLOSTER

Little Flower Kloster was started on August 1, 1994 in the Diocese of Augsburg, Germany. It intends to foster the spiritual life and to promote priestly vocation through pastoral service especially through youth guidance,  to spread the spirituality of Little Flower, to promote Indian and Oriental philosophy and spirituality: to co-ordinate the members in the life and the vision of the Congregation and to support the Province financially.

13. KOTTOOR:  ST. THOMAS ASHRAM
    
Permission to start a house at Kottoor was given by Mar Sebastian Vallopally, bishop of Thalassery on March 21,1958. The parish was established on August 20,1959. The following institutions were later added to it: Balabhavan (1965), ITC(1978), SMIT (1981), Social Centre (Little Flower Book Centre, Little Flower Tailoring Centre, Little Flower Institute of Medical Technology) Library, Music Centre, Nursery School and Samaritan Home. The pastoral needs of the nearby station, Nellikunnu is looked after from this Ashram.

  This is a residential center of St. Thomas Province. Samaritan Home gives shelter to the destitute, the terminally sick and the dying. The new building is built on the land donated by the Archdiocese of Thalassery to our Province.
